So we started clearing the woodland at the start of the year which had been overgrowing for what must have been left for over 40 years.
Our plan was not to clear the wood but simply remove the flotsam & jetsam that doesn’t stand a chance, to open up views, and finally to remove all trace of holly and ivy. Much of the woodland was dominated by self seeding holly bushes/trees, making it hard to both get & see around.
So we started in July and went through the summer with the kids armed with machetes, tree saws, loppers & other suitable implements. Fairly immediate returns and a whole lot of fires burning for days. Apparently somewhere down in those woods used to be a grass tennis court – we are rehabilitating the land to what it once was.
